Thankful People are Happier People!

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us and the Christmas trees are being lit. I’m jetsetting to Chicago for Thanksgiving and celebrating with Friendsgiving, Christkindlmarket, ice skating and the Thanksgiving Day parade this year! Items are replaceable, special times and people are not. During this season, it’s important to remember that the most memorable gifts are those that create memories and are not materialistic in nature. This Thanksgiving and every day, give thanks for a…

  • Smile: (See Miracles In Life Everyday!) Be the reason someone else can smile through simple acts of kindness. As a dental professional, I love helping people to feel confident enough to smile.
  • Loved one: Family is forever, they love you through thick and thin and will always have your back. Tell them you love them often because life is short.
  • True friend: Friends are the family we choose for ourselves. These are the friends who you can go without talking for weeks and still pick up where you left off. You can make a friends day by just being there for moral support.
  • Hobby: These fun activities that you do in your free time make you an interested, well-rounded person. Also, who doesn’t love the stress relief?? Some fun activities I enjoy are indoor cycling, knitting/crafting, paddleboarding, being a beach bum… and blogging!
  • Challenge: Because it will only make us stronger. Dream big and shoot for the moon, because even if you miss you land among the stars. Dental school has helped mold me. Being in the inaugural class has made me adaptable, and it’s given me the leadership mindset to run the UNE American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry predoctoral chapter and a National Children’s Oral Health Foundation sponsored outreach program.
  • Journey: Life is a journey and not a destination. Exploring new places will broaden your horizons and appreciate how others live. Take advantage of every opportunity so you don’t have any regrets later in life.
  • Mentor: Professional career guidance from a trusted advisor may lead to a greater sense of achievement professionally and personally.
  • Volunteer opportunity: There is no greater fulfillment than helping underprivileged people. Like Mother Theresa once said, “you have two hands: one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” You learn to not judge people by the cover and to really put yourself in other people’s shoes. I love helping out at the Mission of Mercy dental events because patients are able to have dental care that otherwise couldn’t afford it. This group of people are some of the most grateful, inspiring and hard-working people.
  • Little thing in life: Take time to enjoy the simple things in life. Reflect on the positive things that happened during each day and don’t forget to make time for meditation. How would your life be different if you focus on your blessings rather than what you are lacking?

There are so many things to appreciate in our life. I hope this helped you count your blessings. Have a fun and safe holiday season!
